This supercell tracked across central South Dakota on July 23, 2010 and produced an 8 inch diameter hail stone in the town of Vivian. This was the largest hailstone ever recorded and the record still stands 8 years later. To put that size into perspective, a regulation bowling ball has a diameter of 8.5 inches.
